babies are no longer babies!

Last August, my kids had their Linggo ng Wika. In the Philippines, this is a very important event since it celebrates our Filipino language. Programs and evvents are scheduledd wherein children must perform balagtasan and plays. Aside from that they must wear our ethnic costumes, whether they be Spanish-influenced Filipino traditional costumes or the colorful clothes of our Igorot and Muslim brothers.

First and foremost, I had to look for their fantabulous costumes. T'was exciting really, children's costumes are so much better nowadays compared to the fashion choices available to us before, blecch! kidding aside, my 2 daughters both opted for the Spanish-influenced Filipiniana costumes and my son opted for a formal Barong Tagalog. How I almost cried seeing them so cute and almost adult-like in their clothes! They've really now grown!

In school they showed off their various developed talents in singing, poetry and the Balagtasan, a form of Filipino debate which is very articulate in its use of poetic and deep Filipino words. TO my kids, Congratulations! I wish you'll never grow but I need to slowly let go! Love you all.
